Lobar Site Completes Complex Retaining Wall Project Ahead of Schedule on Busy Route 322

Lobar Site Development recently completed a challenging and high-profile retaining wall project along Route 322 in West Chester, PA—two months ahead of the contracted completion date.

The project involved the construction of a 200-foot-long T-Wall concrete retaining wall, standing 23 feet tall. Significant road work was required in preparation for the excavation phase. To maintain uninterrupted two-way traffic on this heavily traveled roadway, Lobar Site first constructed a 220-foot-long shoring wall.

Working just off the shoulder of westbound Route 322, the team faced daily challenges from dense traffic while executing a deep 23-foot cut. They installed over 20 caissons and set 18×119 steel beams to form the backbone of the shoring system. As excavation progressed in lifts to the footing elevation, 4-inch-thick timber lagging was placed between the soldier piles to stabilize the cut.

With the excavation complete, the crew began placing massive 18,000-pound precast T-Wall sections using Lobar’s Cat 345 excavator. More than 20 tractor-trailer loads of precast components were set over the course of two weeks. Backfill was placed incrementally after each lift of wall sections was installed to ensure stability and efficiency throughout the process.

This project was a testament to Lobar Site Development’s expertise in managing complex infrastructure jobs under tight timelines and demanding traffic conditions. Congratulations to the entire crew for completing this unique and challenging build safely, efficiently, and two months ahead of schedule.
